Inspired by the urban forms & arrangements, materials & trades of making vernacular to İstanbul, PARÇA design objects that disregard material hierarchies and pay attention to components as individuals. Producing in small quantities and custom, all components are made and assembled by hand in small scale workshops in İstanbul; and open to repair and repurpose.
By researching potentials of İstanbul’s vernacular production networks & their elements, PARÇA produces everyday design objects that disregard the hierarchies in materials and trades of making. PARÇA pays attention to components as individuals to constructs new structural & formal relationships that extend the capacity and life of the objects and their parts.
Producing in small quantities and custom, all components are made in small scale workshops in İstanbul and assembled by hand. All objects and components are open to be repaired, reused and repurposed.
PARÇA is made by Ayşenaz Toker, a designer and design educator with a Bachelor’s degree from ODTÜ and MA from RCA Design Products, working across furniture, public furniture, accessories, toys and games; and rituals and spells. She is interested in interplay between materials, forms and meanings of things, and the capacities they manifest.
